Robert Capa / International Center of Photography
Inchochina,Hanoi. May 1954
Robert CAPA was born on the 22nd October 1913 in Budapest as Andre FRIEDMANN, and while on assignment for Life Magazine,he was killed by a mine explosion on the 25th May 1954 when accompanying troops in the delta of the Red River along the route between Nam Dinh and Thai Binh.The casket was first buried in Hanoi, and later returned to the United States for burial at Amawalk (45 klms for NYC).
Capa's coffin is seen here being loaded on to a plane at Dinh airbase en route to Hanoi, there was a Senegalese guard of honour part of the French contingent, at the airport.May 1954.
