July 17, 2014. Crash of Malaysia Airlines Flight 17

May 29, 2018
by Jerome Sessini
On the afternoon of July 17th 2014, Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 disintegrated over eastern Ukraine resulting in the death of all 298 passengers and crew. At the time of the crash, the Ukrainian army and the pro-Russian separatists, then opposed in the Donbass War, accused each other of having shot down the aircraft. After 4 years of investigation the "Buk" missile that shot down the Boeing has been officially recognized as belonging to the 53rd Anti-Aircraft Brigade of the Russian Army although Russian officials are still denying any involvement in the incident.
Jerome Sessini was nearby at the time covering the conflict and was one of the first to arrive at the scene of the crash site.
