The Bristlecone Pine Forest in California's White Mountains is home to the world's oldest living non-clonal trees. "Methuselah" is thought to be almost 5,000 years old and is amongst the trees photographed by Alec. Its location is being held a tightly kept secret in order to protect it from the public.

While magnificent in theory, in reality Bristlecone trees are squat, twisted, weathered, and tired. Alec reflects on the aging process with a visit to nearby Sterling Heights Assisted Living center, home to residents who have led magnificent lives and are weathering the storm of their final days.
