Spéos and Magnum Photos Street Photography with Matt Stuart
April 12, 2017
Magnum Photos and Spéos are joining forces again, to offer an unique summer Street Photography workshop with Matt Stuart!

Happening both in London and Paris this summer led by Magnum Photographer Matt Stuart and Spéos experts, this workshop combines studio technique, shooting, lectures, critiques and editing.

Participants are first introduced to the techniques of studio photography in a very practical way: use of studio equipment, electronic flashes, basic studio lighting techniques, large format cameras, as well as the Stop System method. The aim is to teach participants how to handle sometimes difficult lighting conditions once outside in the streets.

Matt Stuart, Magnum photographer who has photographed London for the last 20 years, will then take participants out on the street of London and Paris and pass on his tips and tricks on capturing the extraordinary in the everyday. The group will then meet at the Spéos Paris and London offices to share feedback and discuss ways to improve technique and imagery.

Duration: 15h per week during 2 weeks.
Tuition: € 2950

About Matt Stuart

Born in 1974, Matt Stuart was raised in the leafy suburbs of Harrow, North West London. He admits to a less than distinguished school career, but was called upon aged 11 to play a trumpet solo in front of the Queen Mother. Her Majesty’s reaction is not recorded.

A little later, in 1986, Matt discovered skateboarding after watching the film “Back to the Future”. Skating occupied his every waking moment until 1994, when he looked up from the half-pipe and noticed that girls had got a lot more interesting. He also indulged in a brief, ill-advised affair with Kung Fu.

Matt’s father, keenly aware that his son would never be the next Bruce Lee, introduced him to photography, handing over books by Robert Frank & Henri Cartier-Bresson. Ever since then, photography has been Matt’s overriding passion, although he’s still quite interested in skateboards and girls. (But thankfully not Kung Fu).
