Visual Storytelling Workshop in Tokyo with Thomas Dworzak

April 20, 2018
Produce new work and refine your visual storytelling skills under the guidance of renowned Magnum photographer Thomas Dworzak.

Apply now for this five-day intensive workshop hosted by Magnum Tokyo that will push participants to examine their photographic practice through in-depth portfolio critiques and peer-to-peer discussions, and challenge them to create new work as part of a group practical assignment.

Attendees will benefit from lectures on different modes and approaches to photographic storytelling, and participate in editing sessions with Thomas Dworzak, as the group works collectively toward a final group edit of the work produced during the workshop. This group edit will then be showcased at a public event.

“In a funny way, photography is an extremely outgoing occupation, but at the same time it’s extremely navel-gazing because our own work is such a big thing to us. What’s so nice about learning in groups, doing group discussions and critiques, is that is where the real learning happens. You can learn so much from watching a teacher, a mentor, or another third person talk about their work, much more than you can from being told about your own work.”

Aimed at photographers wishing to broaden their perspectives and push the boundaries of their personal development, this workshop aims to elevate the standard of both regional and international photographers.

“I am very much looking forward to discovering and discussing the participants  work. We will then explore individual stories in Tokyo chosen according to the individual sensibilities of the participants”

The event is supported by Fujifilm. Participants will be invited to a gallery talk with Thomas Dworzak on the occasion of the HOME Tokyo exhibition, a collaborative project with Magnum Photos and Fujifilm.
