Aleksandr N. Fedorov, deputy director of the Melnikov Permafrost Institute in Yakutsk says "all Yakutia is on fire".
According to Fedorov this has been the driest June since recordings started. Usually it rains an average of 37mm in Yakutsk in June. This year it has been 3mm. He says "we already live in a completely different climate" and that the government was not prepared. Because of the drought, more money should have been demanded from Moscow in advance.
