UAE. Abu Dhabi. 2024. Maram Khassim, 5 yrs old from Beit Hanoun. The IDF hit the madrassa Abu Hussein girls school that was being used as a shelter on December 13th 2023. 52 people were killed and 150 injured. 10 of her family members were killed in the same attack. She was hit in the head and was thought dead. They wrapped her in a cloth and prepared to bury her. The mother insisted to see her before she was buried and she held her hand and Maram faintly squeezed it at which point they realised she was still alive. She was completely blind for 6 months and half her body was paralised. She underwent brain surgery in the UAE and has partially regained her vision and some of her mobility. The Emirates Humanitarian City is a housing complex in Abu Dhabi. It provides support and medical assistance to over 2000 ill and injured Palestinians evacuated from the Gaza strip.
