SUDAN. Tatok village, Nuba Mountains, Sudan. January, 2024.
Kuku Botrus does not know how old he is. He works the land near his village of Tatok, deep in a remote area of the Nuba Mountains.
The Nuba Mountains is a remote area. Consequently, the infrastructure in the regions undeveloped and access to services has been poor. The majority of people live in mud huts in scattered villages and may walk up to seven hours a day to collect water. Communication is slow, because there are no paved roads, only tracks, many of which have fallen into disuse and become overgrown. Most people travel on foot, and a few by cart or bicycle. Access to radio or television is poor throughout the region, and many rely on word of mouth for communication.
