Ian Berry
SOUTH AFRICA. Gauteng Province. Johannesburg. For the increasing poor both black and white, institutions like the Salvation Army are having to feed the growing numbers of unemployed. Each day, the Salvation Army is able to feed and house a limited number and also in the afternoon to give a simple food hand-out to queues of the destitute. For the whites, who are unused to mixing with Africans, this is a serious levelling of society. The state in South Africa makes no provision for the unemployed. 2004.
