GB. Jersey. Liberation Day Breakfast. Leo Harris was trapped on the island with his family during the military occupation of the Channel Islands by Nazi Germany lasted for most of the Second World War, from 30th June 1940 to 9 May 1945. His brother (John) Francis Harris was imprisoned when he was 15 for stealing a rifle and owning a radio, making him the youngest prisoner of war in the British Isles. He had just lost sight in one eye when cleaning the rifle, after accidentally releasing the bolt while looking down the barrel. Their father, John Francis Harris, owned the Marina Hotel at Havre des Pas. He gathered passers-by inside to escape the bombing as German aircraft flew across the island ahead of the invasion. He was also imprisoned for 6 months for possession of a radio towards the end of the occupation. 2013.
