Iraq. Erbil. 2015. A 14-year-old Yazidi girl recovers in her home near the front line. Held captive for four months, she was chained to two other girls and sold to a Saudi man, who told her “my religion was dirty and made me do whatever they wanted.” She was only released after her father Ioris posed as an ISIS member and offered $9,000 to buy her as a slave. Her father also managed to buy back six relatives, but now owes $35,000. He was one of the few survivors of an attack on their village in which most of the men and boys were executed.
