Ilyich Steel and Iron Works. The second largest metallurgical enterprise in Ukraine. The works produces the hot-rolled and cold-rolled steel of wide assortment, including for ship building, oil pipeline, boring gas pipeline and water-pipes. The company is the sole enterprise of Ukraine which produces galvanized steel and tanks for liquid gases.
Located on the Azov Sea, some 100 kilometers from the rebel-held provincial capital Donetsk, Mariupol is seen as a key element of a potential land corridor from Russia to the Crimean peninsula.
