GB. England. Oxford. All Souls Hall. Ascension Day. Beating the Bounds. Cherry Cake. On Ascension Day, the annual Beating of the Bounds ceremony is carried out by schoolchildren from the two parishes in the centre of Oxford. The University Church of St Mary’s route takes in All Souls College. In the dim distant past the church sold a plot of land to All Souls where there was once a cherry orchard. In recognition of this the pupils are given cherry cake and squash in the common room after the boundary has been beaten in All Souls. 2015.
