MEXICO. Mexico City. November 7, 2018
Migrants from Central America, part of the caravan that started in San Pedro Sula Honduras on October 12 arrive in Mexico City at the Base Ball Stadium (Estadio Palillo).
Ronald Venegas, 43, from Olanchito de Yoro, Honduras, traveled with his son who got deported in Mexico
I was traveling with my son but migration deported him. He is 20. He is in Honduras now. Mexican migration. We were always hitchhiking and one time he got caught with 30 other people. I’ve been in Mexico for one year and eight months because a drug dealer wanted to rape one of my daughters who was 14. Thank God, she is now in the US. I have four children and a grandchild there. We arrived in the US in 2017 and they gave everyone [my wife and kids] except me the right to request asylum. It was when you had that brown-skinned president, what was his name? They are 22, 17, 11 and 6-years-old and they live in New York. I have tried to get back to the US twice and been deported. The good thing is that I’m not a criminal but only God knows my destiny. It has been very hard walking and we have seen ugly things. The doctors have taken care of the kids which is the most important thing, because we adults can bear more. If I request asylum, there might not be any possibility of that. I know that he [Trump] has a lot of soldiers on the border. Only God knows each person’s destiny. I wish people in the US knew that the truth is that all the people here need so much from countries like Canada and the US because we are too poor. We are all hard working. I hope they will treat me kindly because I want to see my kids. I only have one deportation and I am not a criminal. I have never been in jail.
