MEXICO. Tijuana. November 18, 2018.
About 4 000 migrants from Central America, part of the caravan that started in San Pedro Sula Honduras on October 12 arrived in Tijuana, Mexico, at the Benito Juarez sports complex.
A group of about 300 persons gathered in front of a statue of the Aztec warrior Cuauhtémoc before making their way to a sports complex serving as a temporary shelter to about 2,500 migrants from the caravan.
Anti-caravan protesters chanted: "Migrants yes, invaders no!", "our poor first!" “Tijuana first” and “Long live Mexico” and "We don't want Maras here, we have enough violence!". They also waved Mexican flags and signs reading “no to the invasion”.
Tensions have risen in Tijuana as members of the Central American migrant caravan continue to arrive at the Mexican border city, while US troops continue to tighten security along the frontier.
