NICARAGUA. Solentiname Islands. 1984. A Nicaraguan child soldier stands inside a Catholic church against invading U.S.-backed Contra counter revolutionaries. Solentiname was an island in the south that became famous for its style of paintings. Father Ernesto CARDENAL was a local priest who organized painting workshops and eventually became Nicaragua's Minister of Culture during the Sandinista government.
