AFRICA. Rwanda. 1994. The corpse of over 1000 rwandan refugees, killed in the parish church of Nyarubuye where they had taken shelter, were found by the rebel Rwandan Patriotic Front as they advanced through the country, 44 days after the massacre took place. A seminarian at Nyarubuye who escaped the slaughter identified the Hutu militias known as "interahamwe" as the killer to a reporter. Meanwhile, territory controlled by the Rwandan Patriotic Front has been pacified, and both Tutsi and Hutu refugees, displaced by the tribal violence that has taken hundreds of thousands of lives, take shelter there.
