UKRAINE. Saur-Mogila, East Ukraine. November 27, 2014. Ruins of Saur-Mogila. A historic battlefield between the German and Russian forces that had become a monument to the Second World War was re-engaged in the summer of 2014 when Russian-backed separatists and the Ukrainian Army fought on the same site which sits 277 meters above sea level and provides an excellent military vantage point. Fighting reduced the shrine to rubble.
