Elliott Erwitt
SCOTLAND. 2011. Caber toss for the Robin McBain Memorial Trophy, Aberlour Highland Games, Aberlour, Moray. Another heavyweight event held during the Highland Games is the caber toss, a test of strength said to have developed from the practice of tossing logs across narrow chasms in order to cross them, or from throwing tree trunks well into the middle of a river so they would float down to the sawmills without snagging on the river banks. The caber measures 18 feet long and weighs roughly 150lbs.
