IRAQ. Falluja. June 12, 2005. al-Anbar province. Marine patrolling. 2nd MEF (Second Marine Expeditionary Force), US Marines from Camp Lejune, North Carolina. 4th Marine Reserve. According to the new military plan, US Marine/Army units are getting attached to new Iraqi pro-American forces in an effort to gradually hand security operation over to the Iraqis.
In the case of Falluja, several brigades of a "Quick Reaction Force," built out of Iraqis mostly from the southern areas, form the IIF (Iraqi Intervention Forces), nicknamed "Djundis" (arabic=soldier). They patrol the city, raid houses of suspected insurgents and they are being trained...etc.
