PERU. Lima. December 1, 2006. Chorrillos (Women's) Prison. Women prisoners at volleyball tournament during a week long AIDS awareness campaign (culminating in International AIDS Day on December 1) at Lima's prison for women. Due to the success of the AIDS campaign at Lurigancho, MSF launched a similar program at Chorrillo which interns 1040 inmates (and 12 HIV patients). Living conditions in the women's prison are much better than in Lurigancho. Women may live with their babies until they are 3 years of age. There are a large number of foreigners caught at the airport attempting to smuggle contraband as "mules."
