BANGLADESH. Sirajganj. 2009. 'Town Protection Embankment', which partially collapsed due to heavy currents in the Jamuna river. Local boatsmen are hired by the WABDA (Bangladesh Water Development Board) to fill sandbags from the nearby 'chars' (sand islands), bring them to the broken/cracked embankment, and dump it overbaord in the river so that it patches up and strengthens the weak structure underwater.
