SOUTH AFRICA. Standerton Elections. Political posters. The Verenigde is Jan Smuts' United Party. HNP is the Nationalist Party. The poster show figures of Nazis, Greyshirts, OB's and Nationalists with the inscription: "They stood together 1938-1945. They still stand together." The South African election campaign of 1948 was the first presidential election to be fought on racial lines eventually won by Malans Nationalist Party. Standerton was the constituency of the leader of the United Party, General Jan Smuts, located in rural area 100 miles from Johannesburg. 1948.
