Several thousand demonstrators braved freezing weather to demand the abolition of a constitutional article enshrining the Communist Party's monopoly on power. They gather peacefully near the Moscow Olympic Stadium, and later at Pushin Square in the city, where riot police broke up the manifestation and injured at least one person. The demand was to abolish Article 6 of the constitution which defines the party's " leading role" in Soviet society.
