ISAREL. Army reservists. The prolonged state of no war-no peace between Israel and its neighhbours has resulted in a defense strategy based on a small regular army and extensive reserves that are called up in emergencies. Most men are subject to about a month's reserve duty each year up to the age of 55. Army service has helped integrate segments of society that otherwise might not come in contact with one another. it has also fostered what some call a boy's club atmosphere among Israeli men, and what others call "male bonding". 1955.
