SUDAN. Kordofan. A fancy-dressed warrior mingles with spectators, shaking the bells encircling his waist. He does not take part in the the wrestling, but acts as a court-jestor. His costume is made of colubus monkey hair attached over his shoulders. The large flail carried over his shoulder is used to beat the ground around the wrestlers in order ward off evil spirits. 1949.
