Leonard Freed
WEST GERMANY. Town of Tegernsee. 1965.
A little cemetery on a hill where one may enter and pay homage to recent dead who lie behind a glass partition. The caretaker, in his old German handwriting, has placed a card for those who care, "84 years of life and a house she possessed." Between the crosses, a wall separates village natives from newcomers, refugees from the East, and retired businessmen. Newcomers are buried outside the cemetery.
