Italy. 1950. Inside a school in Cimino, near the village of San Marco Argentano, Cosenza. The teacher, Olga Natale, sits besides the doorway. She complained about the conditions of the school - the roof leaks and cold winds blow through the room.
Through the open door one see a child shepherd who cannot go to school because he has to watch the herd.
