UKRAINE. May-june 2008. 40 kms west of Chernobyl, Outside of the forbidden zone. Forest that is radioactive and contaminated, but not fully closed off to the public. On the edge of the forest, two children drying out after swimming in a pond filled by surrounding groundwater. As the level of radiation changes from one spot to another it is impossible, without a Geiger counter for the children to know if the earth and water is contaminated or not. The earth and water can change regularily from being uncontaminated to contaminated and vice versa. May-June 2008.
