French Guiana is one of the most protected region in the world (98% of its forest and 48% of the territory is a protected area), mostly due to the fact that 90% of the 8 millions-hectares-land is the Amazon rainforest and host one of the richest biodiversities. As an example, 1 ha has 3 times more species than all continental Europe.

On assignment with the New York Times, Antoine d’Agata photographed this mysterious wilderness. For the photographer, focusing on animals was a way to “connect with the physical world in a more profound way.”
