April 1st, 2024 : 25 years since Nunavut, an Inuit homeland, is created from the eastern portion of the Northwest Territories to become Canada's third territory.
Magnum Photographers
Nunavut comprises a major portion of Northern Canada and most of the Arctic Archipelago. The capital is Iqaluit. It was separated officially from the Northwest Territories on April 1, 1999, via the Nunavut Act and the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement Act, which provided this territory to the Inuit for independent government.
