On the 15th April 2019, when the blaze developed at Notre-Dame de Paris, the spire of the cathedral was in the process of being restored. The scaffold that was erected for this project held fast during the conflagration despite the collapse of the spire, but was damaged. Weighing at least 200 tons and standing more than 40 meters high, it represented a serious danger to the cathedral.
The operation to dismantle the scaffolding is extremely complex and required meticulous preparation.
