Distro - Belfast revisited. 

Chris Steele-Perkins 

I came to Belfast to find out how the poor lived, about the violence they lived with and about part of the country I lived in: Great Britain and Northern Ireland, even if the people I was photographing didn't want to be a part of that country.

I was working on a book with two other photographers, Nicholas Battye and Paul Trevor concerned with inner city poverty in the 1970's. I had been to Newcastle, Middlesbrough, Glasgow and worked in London, but Belfast was more extreme: poorer and, while the response to oppression in some of the other cities took to violence in the streets and race riots,...
