Exhibition - Carnival Strippers

Susan Meiselas 

From 1972 to 1975, Susan Meiselas spent the summer months photographing, interviewing, and following the women who performed striptease in small-town carnivals in New England, Pennsylvania, and South Carolina. The works invites a consideration of how attitudes toward public sexuality, feminism, and the documentary genre of photography have changed in the twenty-five years since Meiselas' photographs were made.
