November 21, 2014 marks the 50th anniversary of the opening of the Verrazano Bridge. Linking the boroughs of Brooklyn and Staten Island, it was the worlds longest suspension bridge until 1981. The bridge remains the longest bridge span in North and South America and is crossed by an estimated 190,000 cars a day.
