President of Iraqi Kurdistan Massoud Barzani has announced that he will step down from office when his term ends this week. Barzani's television address comes one month after an overwhelming majority voted in favor of independence from Iraq. Since then, Iraqi forces have seized portions of Kurdish territory including oil-rich Kirkuk.
