Gueorgui Pinkhassov photographed Emmanuel Carrère, a French author, writer, and filmmaker, for the New York Times. Carrère has written 14 books over the course of 36 years, and is celebrated as one of France’s greatest nonfiction writers. His latest book, “The Kingdom,” tells the story of the founding of Christianity as well as his personal experience with the religion.
