Distro - South Africa: Election Campaign 

Ian Berry 

South Africans have been voting in local elections seen as a test for President Jacob Zuma and the ruling African National Congress. The ANC has dominated the political landscape since the first all-race elections in 1994, but growing criticism of the slow economic growth rate and 27% unemployment could see the ANC lose control of major cities for the first time.

Ian Berry, photographer of some of the apartheid era's most seminal photos, spent time on the election trail in Soweto and Alexandria with candidates for the Democratic Alliance.
