Among Bruno Barbey’s pictures on Istanbul, there is one who is really particular. It’s a portrait of a woman dressed in red, perhaps a cleaning lady, who is walking in a state of hypnosis on a bridge over the Bosphorus. It’s a photo who could express the metaphor of « the bridge between the East and the West», but at the same time this picture shows the everyday life, at once, the fight for the social and economic rights and the traditional values. Bruno Barbey is not a « foreign » photographer, but a witness of his time.
