"In 2010, Kate and Laura Mulleavy contacted me with a fascinating assignment. These cutting edge fashion designers wanted me to photograph their creative influences. They sent me a list of things that had inspired their fashion: California Condors, Boris Karloff as Frankenstein, Japanese horror films, Gordon Matta-Clark and so on. Over the course of two weeks, I traveled throughout California on a sort of treasure hunt looking for these sometime obscure inspirations.
