When several dozen Ethnic Albanians were killed by Yugoslav security forces during the Racak Massacre, an initially intense diplomatic-later, military-effort by NATO was unleashed in order to take control of the escalating situation in the break-away Republic where the Ethnic Albanian Kosovo Liberation Army fought Serb-Yugoslav forces in a bloody civil war. After several weeks of NATO air strikes against Slobodan Miloševic's Yugoslavia and the deportation of a large percentage of the Ethnic Albanian population, NATO troops occupied Kosovo. In turn, the local Serbs had to flee to ethnically clean...
