Harry Gruyaert found a faulty television set. The PAL TV screen gave the colors an interesting woven quality, all the more so since the television was defective. That same year, the Olympic Games in Munich were broadcast in color for the second time. Glued to his TV for the two weeks of the Games, Gruyaert photographed the television screen using a variety of camera settings. His goal was not to create a clear, smooth image but images that were rich in color and texture, in what was to become his signature style.
