Africa's longest civil war is about to end.

In Sudan, the twenty-year civil war between the Islamic regime in Khartoum and the Christian South has been one of the longest-running conflicts on the African continent.

Sudan gained independence from Britain in 1956. That unleashed warring factions, the most notable of which was the Sudanese People's Liberation Army, formed in 1983 by John Garang, which began fighting the Arab Muslim government in Khartoum. Garang's goal was to seek greater autonomy for the mainly Christian animist south. The conflict has, to date, claimed more than two million lives...
