Distro - 75th Anniversary of the Empire State Building

Magnum Photographers

May 1, 2006 marks the 75th anniversary of the opening of the Empire State Building. Despite the stock market crash of 1929, construction began in 1930. Even though the Great Depression created a great problem for the developers, who had problems finding tenants, work continued until completion in 1931. It continues to be one of New York's oldest and most recognizable landmarks.
