Sam Fuller was a Corporal in the US First Infantry Division which landed on Omaha beach on June 6th, 1944, in 1978 he made a film to commemorate this event called The Big Red One, which was recreated on the beaches of Natanya in Israel. He got the Silver Star for his other films "Hell and High Water" and "Merrills Marauders."
