December begins with World AIDS Day, which aims to bring attention to the deadly epidemic, to remember those who have lost their lives to it, and to reaffirm worldwide commitment to fighting the disease. AIDS is the leading killer in Africa, and UNAIDS estimates that there are currently 33.2 million people living with HIV.
