New York City Transit proposed a ban on unauthorized photography (as well as filming and videotaping) on subways, buses and Staten Island Railway trains on May 20, 2004. Issues of security and safety were cited as main reasons
for the ban. Immediate objections from the New York Public Interest Research Group Straphangers Campaign were voiced bringing up issues of First Amendment rights.
