Hubert Védrine (b.1947) was a close collaborator of François Mitterrand, who made him General Secretary of the Elysée in 1991. His vision, as a Foreign Minister since 1997, of France in a growing political "globalisation", and particulary of a French - German common strategy, has made him one of the most influential politicians under the Lionel Jospin regime.
