Kang Kek Ieu "Duch" a Major Contributor to the Deaths of the Khmer Rouge. 1999.
Philip Jones Griffiths
Between 1975 and 1979, two million Cambodian people, one out of every six in the country, died under the Khmer Rouge rule. Duch, aka Kang Kek Ieu, ran the most notorious prison during the Khmer Rouge regime. Duch was director of Tuol Sleng, a Phnom Penh high school converted into a torture chamber. It was estimated that 16,000 people were tortured there. Only seven survivors remain. Duch, a converted Christian who has worked with International Aids Groups, has expressed remorse and willingness to stand trail for his crimes.
