"On the road from Gori to Tskhinvali, the desire to understand war is gone. The history, politics, the origins - it's all gone. The short, fast war. The incredible destruction that was caused in a few dozen kilometres in only five days can't be hidden. Hatred, bad blood, the same old reasons for war are transforming the faces of the victims in sad masks without hope. The same story in South Ossetia, same masks, same questions."

Alex Majoli's work is a result of travelling to the battle sites of the August 2008 war between Russia and Georgia over South Ossetia, and examining its legacy of suffering...
